On the Road with flower – Part 2: Trade Secrets

From the “city,” I drove to the Litchfield Hills and met up with three Birmingham friends, editor Karen Carroll, photo stylist and garden shop owner Lydia Pursell, and interior designer Tammy Connor (check out Tammy’s blog here for more images of the Market Day). Our destination was the Trade Secrets antique and rare plant sale. The brainchild of Bunny Williams, Trade Secrets is an annual event benefiting Women’s Support Services, an organization dedicated to creating a community free of domestic violence and abuse through intervention, prevention, and education. Like kids in a candy shop, we browsed the tents filled with garden ornaments, antiques, statuary, and rare plants. The next day, we toured this year’s Trade Secrets gardens, and spent the whole time “oohing,” “aahing,” and taking notes. flower had the chance to photograph these gorgeous gardens, so enjoy this sneak peek and stay tuned for an upcoming feature in the magazine!

Grasses, a rustic sphere, and stacked stone lead up to the Hyland-Wente house on the garden tour.

This rich red mound-y arrangement made me smile as we toured the house.
