Exciting Philadelphia Flower Show Lectures

flower girls are heading to the Philadelphia Flower Show next week. One of the biggest and best flower shows in the world, we know the 2012 Hawaii: Islands of Aloha event will not disappoint. flower is proud to sponsor a rich and varied line-up of lectures on Saturday, March10 in Lecture Room 201C. We got off to a good start with lectures by Jerry Fritz and Tovah Martin (read about them here), and the day continues with more entertainment and information from garden experts:

1:00pm – Planting Pride – Growing Great Communities
Evelyn Alemanni, America in Bloom

Evelyn is a self-employed writer, web site designer, award winning gardener and artist. Evelyn has judged for the America in Bloom program since 2002 and has also served as an international judge for the Communities in Bloom program since 2005; evaluating 83 towns in six countries. These are experiences which Evelyn says have given her the opportunity to share wonderful ideas and inspirations and to build networks of people committed to improving their hometowns. She is a member of the board of directors of America in Bloom. In addition, she serves as an international judge for the LivCom awards.

2:30pm – A Passion for Herbaceous Perennials in the Garden
Maurice Parkinson, Ballyrobert Cottage Garden and Nursery

Maurice Parkinson M.Hort., M.B.A., D.H.E.(Hons), N.D.Arb. was educated initially at the world famous Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh and subsequently at Writtle College in England and the University of Ulster in Ireland and one of the country’s best qualified and most experienced horticulturalists.  Maurice held the position of Director of Parks in Belfast for many years and his responsibilities included the City’s parks and open spaces, gardens, sports grounds, and graveyards. Belfast Botanic Gardens, The City of Belfast International Rose Garden, Belfast Castle Estate and the City of Belfast Zoological Gardens were under the control of Maurice.

In 2007 Maurice joined his wife Joy and established Ballyrobert Cottage Garden and Nursery which has a uniquely designed 6 acre Ulster Cottage Garden, which is open to the public, a specialist retail nursery and plant centre.
